Basic Roulette Lessons
If you’ve ever wandered off to the Roulette table in a casino and got confused with all the betting that takes place; how each winning bet is rewarded with a subsequent payout; and how the players all seem to know exactly what is going on; then it’s high time we learn a thing or two about Roulette.
First of all, there are basically two types of Roulette wheels found in casinos, the American variation and the European version. While there are actually three types of Roulette games that we can play, including the French version of the game; the first two types are the ones most players join in.
Basics of Roulette
Roulette is played by spinning the wheel and waiting for the ball to land on a particular spot. The spots are where the players will place their bets; thirty-six in all, numbered one to thirty-six within the inside betting section; and either a single zero in the European version or a single and a double zero in the American version within the outside betting portion of the table.
Outside bets can also be placed on the Odd or Even spots; the First 12, Second 12, and Third 12 spots; Red or Black; and High or Low.
Inside bets usually give a payout equivalent to thirty-five to one number; seventeen to one when you bet on 2 consecutive numbers; eleven to one when you bet on three numbers in a row; eight to one for a corner bet where you will be betting on 4 numbers, each one found on the corners of the table; and six to one if you wager on zero, double zero, one, two and three all at the same time.
Outside bets usually give a payout of two to one number.
Betting and Winning
With any type of Roulette, betting takes place after the croupier has taken off the marker on the previous winning number. The croupier will then announce when betting stops. Once the ball has landed on a certain spot, the croupier will award the winners their corresponding chips and then betting will begin again.
Never take out your winnings should the ball land on your chosen number. Players will have to wait for the croupier to mark the number and hand out winnings; and also to take out all losing chips from the table.
You will notice that each player is assigned their own color of chips. This is to allow the dealer and the player to distinguish their chips from those of other players’ particularly when chips are placed on top of the other on one specific spot on the table.
Usually, there is a betting minimum and maximum so be sure that you are aware of this prior to playing to give you an idea of how long you can play should you prefer to only place the minimum or the maximum allowable bets per game play.
Remember that you cannot split your bet between the outside and inside betting areas to meet the house limit on betting. House limit is applied to each of these betting sections on the table.
