Roulette Odds & Payouts

We all know that Roulette is a game where your odds of winning or losing are unpredictable.  There is no guaranteed system that will help players predict the outcome of each spin of the Roulette wheel, and likewise, there is no concrete formula to help them come up with winning bets all the time.

There are however, several ways for us to win big bucks in the game should our chosen spot be picked by the ball.  There is also a way for us to win small amount of chips or at least get half or our entire bet back with certain spins.

Understanding Bets and Payouts in Roulette

First of all, what we need to do is to study all the betting structures available on a Roulette table.  This can help us determine how much we could expect to win with every bet that we make.

Inside bets are those that we can make on the numbers found within the inner portion of the Roulette board.  These numbers are from one to thirty-six.  You have the option to bet straight, split, street, corner and five numbers.

The payouts for these inside bets are as follows:

Straight Bet – Choose one specific number on the inside bets; pays thirty-five to one.

Split Bet – Choose two numbers that are side-by-side on the table; pays seventeen to one.

Street Bet – Choose three numbers in a line; pays eleven to one.

Corner Bet – Bet on the four numbers in each corner of the table; pays eight to one.

Five Numbers – This one is only available in the American version of the game. Bet on zero, double zero, one, two, or three; pays six to one.

Outside bets include red or black, odd or even, high or low, column, 1st twelve, 2nd twelve and 3rd twelve.

The usual payout for outside bets is one is to one; except for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd 12; plus the column bet where the odds are 2/1.

Typically, Roulette players who want to play less aggressively than other players choose to place their wagers on the outside bets.  These may give lower payouts but these are easier to hit than the ones on the inside bets.

Other Factors to Consider

When playing Roulette, other than determining the betting structures and their corresponding payouts, we should choose why variation of the game we should play.  There are typically two versions of Roulette that is widely-played in casino today, both online and land-based.

These are the American version of the game and its European counterpart.  There are three distinct differences that you should take note of here.  The American version has the additional double zero on its table and this being so, it has a higher house edge.

The European version only has the single zero and thereby also has a lower house edge.  European Roulette also offers what is called the En Prison rule which allows players to get back half of their wager should there be no winning number on a certain spin; or leave the same wager on the same spot for the next spin.
